Who is best suited to veneers?

Porcelain veneers would be suited to patients who have chipped, discoloured or misshaped teeth.

What are veneers?

A veneer is made of a thin layer of material which is placed over a tooth, usually to improve the aesthetics or to protect a damaged tooth. Porcelain veneers are much like a thin shell that can be bonded with tooth enamel to restore a damaged tooth, or to protect teeth from future damage. The porcelain mimics a tooth's structure better than any other restorative material which is harder than enamel, can resist wear and can last for many years.

How is a veneer fitted?

The procedure usually involves the front surface of a tooth to be drilled back, usually taking away no more than half a millimetre, which creates space for the porcelain veneer. After the tooth has been prepared, the veneer is bonded to the tooth's surface.

The benefits of veneers

Veneers can be used to solve many oral problems. They can be used to cover stained teeth as a result of lifestyle habits such as smoking or drinking coffee. Veneers can also be used to strengthen teeth which are weak. The advantageous nature of veneers means dentists have the ability to control the exact shade and shape of the veneer which can replicate the original tooth.
